They are: 1. SEO (Search Engine Optimzation) We touched on this in an earlier email. This is all about researching the words that people are using to search Google when they want to buy the stuff you sell, then making sure your site pages use those Keywords to get your pages ranked in Google. 2. Social Marketing Social Marketing is about joining the ongoing conversation online and introducing yourself as someone who’s knowledgeable or is an expert on the products you sell. It’s a really important part of your overall marketing…just as important as SEO. 3. PPC (Pay Per Click) Marketing This is where you pay (mostly Google) to advertise your business online. You research the Keywords that people search on to find your products, then you place paid ads in Google’s Adwords program. When someone clicks on one of your ads, you pay for that click. Hopefully, you’ve built your ad campaign well and the person who clicks on your ad buys something! WHAT SHOULD YOU DO FIRST? You always start out with SEO and Social Marketing. That’s just a given. There are also lots of “experts” out there who tell you that you have to use PPC ads right from the start, too. I don’t believe in that. In 35 years in business, I’ve always tried to build from profit, not from my pocket. Online, you have two perfectly good marketing methods available to you that don’t cost anything but your time (as long as you don’t buy any of those hokey ‘instant success’ programs, that is!). Those are Basic SEO (learned and done yourself) and Social Marketing (also done yourself). Neither of those two very effective marketing methods costs money to do yourself, and they most definitely can start to bring in traffic and sales. Now, if you’ve got a lot of money to throw at your business startup, you can buy into Pay Per Click right from the start. However, if you’re like most people, you’re starting on a budget. That means you start with SEO and Social Marketing, and leave the Pay Per Click for later. When you get to the point where you’re bringing in some money from your SEO and Social Marketing-driven sales, you should budget and set aside SOME of those profits to start a VERY LIMITED Pay Per Click campaign. So if you’re starting on a budget, the smart thing to do is to forget PPC and other paid advertising methods for now. Working exclusively on your SEO and Social Marketing will greatly help you test and target your Keywords very tightly. When you’ve got traffic coming on on those keywords, you know they’re working. Then it’s time to use some of the money from your initial sales to get started slowly and carefully with those targeted Keywords in your first PPC campaign. ———————————————————————————————————— So, that’s Day 9 of ’10 Days To EBiz Independence’.
